Air quality alert issued for RI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Environmental officials have issued an air quality alert ahead of a humid air mass moving into the region.

The state Department of Environmental Management predicts that air quality will reach unhealthy levels on Saturday, particularly in the southern part of the state in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service is predicting a high temperature around 90 in Providence.

The young, the elderly and those with underlying health conditions are more likely to experience bad effects from unhealthy air. Problems can include coughing, chest pain, shortness of breath and aggravation of asthma and other respiratory ailments.

All regular public buses and trolleys will be free on Saturday, as they are on all air-quality alert days.
