PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — As the worst of Hurricane Sandy appears to be over, RIPTA has announced that the majority of their service will resume on Tuesday.
Statewide service was suspended Monday as a result of the storm.
The agency tells us that some low-lying areas that took the brunt of the damage, such as South County and Aquidneck Island, may experience some delays. RIPTA will be assessing their ability to safely transport passengers where any major flooding occurred.
We're told that with the exception of vital medical trips, the RIde program will still be suspended, with that service resuming Wednesday.
Flex Service of Route 203 (Narragansett), Route 204 (Westerly), and Route 210 (Kingston) will also be suspended until Wednesday.
The transit agency says passengers, especially in the low-lying areas, should continue to monitor news reports and check the agency's website at RIPTA.com .
