NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) – Less than a week since hurricane Sandy blew through Southern New England, work is already underway to repair the damage to Ocean Rd. in Narragansett.
The $1.2 million contract includes replacement of almost 4,000 feet of sidewalk and replacement of the damaged portion of the seawall.
Eighty percent of the project costs are funded by emergency relief funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee said he is excited about the quick response to his request for funds for initial road repairs.
The RIDOT is also putting plans together to fix roadways all along the Rhode Island coastline and severely damaged roads on Block Island.
They hope to have all repairs done by the end of 2012.
