PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Whenever the threat for severe weather arises, it's important to remember to plan for your pets' needs as well.
The same holds true for animals at the zoo, so employees at Roger Williams Park Zoo are taking the necessary precautions to make sure they're out of harm's way in case Hurricane Sandy hits hard.
"Most of our animals here at the zoo have their own interior space, so if the storm does come up the coast as forecast, the animals will be put indoors for the duration of the storm," said RWP Zoo Operations Director Ron Patalano.
The annual Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is currently underway at Roger Williams, so workers are also planning to bring some pumpkins inside on Sunday night.
If the smaller pumpkins are damaged, they may be replaced once the storm passes.
In the meantime, the event will remain open at least through Sunday, and hopefully through Nov. 3 as planned.
