PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Local authorities have 10 days to pick up wanted fugitive and convicted con artist Kevin Millette in New Jersey.
Millette was arrested on Jan. 11 in Galloway, N.J. on fugitive from justice charges. He was found living in a roadside motel under the name Howard Ethan.
A spokesperson at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s office in New Jersey said Millette waived his right to an extradition hearing on Friday, clearing the way for his return to the Ocean State.
If Millette is not picked up within the 10 day window, he would once again go before a judge in New Jersey for bail consideration. He has been behind bars at the Atlantic County detention center since his arrest.
Millette, 46, of North Smithfield, has been on the run since 2009. A Target 12 investigation revealed he is wanted in at least three states for allegedly scamming several victims of thousands of dollars.
The highest profile victim is former NHL player Jeffrey Jillson. In a civil suit, Jillson said he was scammed of more than $80,000 when Millette failed to produce motorcycle parts and a car.
Millette is wanted in Florida, New Hampshire and being investigated in Massachusetts for another potential scam. He served federal prison time for a 1998 conviction of duping several victims out of $600,000 with hollow promises of an investment deal into Harley Davidson motorcycles.
A call to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office inquiring has not yet been returned.
