(WPRI) - Tonight a Target 12 Investigators exclusive: "Dangerous Game."
It's video from the Target 12 Investigators you have to see to believe. They go undercover to expose Rhode Island's illegal street racing. It's the real world "Fast and the Furious" caught on camera. And this high-speed game puts both drivers and the public at risk.
Target 12 was tipped off to a highly organized and regular gathering of illegal street racers. The tip proved right on. Our unit kept an eye on a straight shot of roadway in Providence for hours. Suddenly, from seemingly out of nowhere in the middle of the night, dozens of cars streamed down the road.
And as our cameras were rolling, a well choreographed and dangerous game takes shape. We brought this exclusive undercover video to the Providence police.
"I would say that they are very organized," said Sgt. Paul Zienowicz of the Providence Police Department.
And we show the video to a family who has been scarred by tragedy on this very stretch of road.
"I wish I could trade places with him. I would do it in a heartbeat, I would," said a relative of one victim. "Because I already raised my kids, he was needed here to be with his kids."
Tonight, we'll show you video of this race putting the public's safety at risk, and reveal what these street racers might know that is making it so hard for police to crack down on this illegal activity.
"Dangerous Game," a Target 12 undercover investigation exposing Rhode Island's secret world of illegal street racing. Watch it Wednesday night, only on Eyewitness News at 11 on WPRI 12.
