PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A reputed Rhode Island mobster accused of trying to order a hit from behind bars appeared, via videoconference, in federal court in Providence Tuesday.
During the proceedings, Anthony "The Saint" St. Laurent Sr. told a federal judge that he would keep his court-appointed attorney.
St. Laurent is a reputed member of the Patriarca organized crime family.
He is currently serving time in federal prison in Massachusetts for extorion. However, according to prosecutors, that did not keep St. Laurent from trying to order a hit against rival, and fellow-capo Robert "Bobby" DeLuca.
Prosecutors said he offered two people about $20,000 to kill DeLuca. They said he told an informant that the hitman should shoot DeLuca in the head and say, "This is from the Saint."
The hit never happened.
St. Laurent has not entered a plea.
