PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A second defendant in a sweeping mob case is asking he be tried separately from reputed former mob boss Luigi “Baby Shacks” Manocchio and other defendants.
Lawyers for Raymond “Scarface” Jenkins argued he wouldn't receive a fair trial if his case were matched up with Manocchio and other defendants including alleged capo regime Edward “Eddie” Lato. The motion was filed in U.S. District Court in Providence on Monday.
Last month, accused mobster Albino Folcarelli made a similar request, arguing he is not charged in the shakedown scheme of area strip clubs. Jenkins and Folcarelli are accused of trying to extort money from an unnamed victim using threats of violence.
Mannochio and Lato are accused or shaking down strip clubs like the Cadillac Lounge and Satin Doll for tribute, or protection money.
U.S. District Court Judge William Smith has yet to rule on the motions.
