Local man won money for Super Bowl ad

Joe Hebert came up with a Doritos commercial

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I., (WPRI) - Many people watched the game to see which team would be the next football champion.

Some watched the game just to see the commercials.

Online voters picked which Doritos ads won the coveted 30 second super bowl air time, giving one Rhode Island native his big break.

Do you remember the Doritos commercial from last year's Super Bowl?

It won its creators, brothers Joe and Dave Hebert, a million dollars, prize money paid by Doritos' parent company Frito-lay

Joe Herbert says, "The biggest change is that we're a lot busier doing what we love."

That overnight success was a dream shared by many of the four thousand hopefuls who entered this year's superbowl ad contest, including Warwick native Nathan Scoggins, who helped create the spot called "The Casket."

Unlike the Hebert's first place finish, Scoggins ad scored 14th on USA today's super bowl ad meter, dashing his chances of a bigger payout.

Scoggins and the other Doritos finalists each won $25,000 and a trip to Miami.

In case you're wondering, the ad topping USA today's poll list is the Snickers commercial featuring Betty White.
