(WPRI) - Providence resident Molly Huddle finished 5th in her women's 5000 meters qualifying heat in London this morning.

That makes her an automatic qualifier for Friday's final.

Huddle finished in a time of 15:02:26. Gelete Burka of Ethiopia finished first in the heat in a time of 15:01:44.

Huddle was among the leaders for the entire race, taking the lead with just a few laps to go.

But four runners were able to pass Huddle in the final 100 meters of the heat.

Huddle grew up in upstate New York but now lives and trains in Providence with New Zealand native Kim Smith who finished 15th in the Olympic marathon earlier this week.
