LOWELL, Mass. (WPRI) - Portsmouth's Ryan Westmoreland began his professional baseball career Friday night with his first game with the single-A Lowell Spinners.
Westmoreland was hit by the pitch and then scored in his second plate appearance. He also got an RBI in his final at-bat of the night with a sacrafice fly.
His official line was 0-2, 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 hit-by-the-pitch, and 1 strikeout.
"There's definately a transition," Westmoreland said. "A high school season is only 20-22 games. Now we're in a 70-75 game season, and it's going to take some time to get used to. I'm excited. I'm doing what I love to do, play baseball."
Lowell won the game 10-6.
