BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Red Sox have almost sealed the deal with their hopeful new slugger.
The Associated Press has confirmed a trade between the Sox and San Diego Padres is almost complete for all-star Adrian Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was in Boston Saturday to complete a physical as one of the last parts of the potential trade which would give the Padres minor league prospects right-hander Casey Kelly, first baseman Anthony Rizzo and outfielder Reymond Fuentes.
The Red Sox were reportedly interested in the three-time all-star and two-time Gold Glove Award-winning first baseman last winter.
Despite coming back from a shoulder injury, the left-hander was able to put up pretty decent numbers hitting .298 with 31 homers and 101 RBIs last season.
The Red Sox have until 2-clock Sunday to finalize the trade.
Gonzalez played five season in San Diego with the Padres.
