WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - After blowing a nine game lead in the AL Wild Card standings, the Red Sox are on the outside looking in this post season. But New Englanders are finding solace in the Patriots and Bruins.
Frank Silva, the owner of First Place Sports in Warwick, says the sale of Red Sox gear slowed down as the team began its collapse in September. But he's noticed fans are already moving on, scooping up gear from New England's other champions.
"People that have been coming in today have been buying Patriots and Boston Bruins," he told Eyewitness News. "They've moved on. That's New Englanders. We'll move on to the next thing, but today's a tough day."
Despite the disappointing end to Boston's season, Silva has no plans to slash prices on Red Sox gear -- saying the Fenway Faithful will always wear the Red Sox's colors with pride.
