NEW YORK (AP) — Red Sox pitching prospect Brian Johnson was hit in the face with a line drive in a Future Games at Boston's Fenway Park.
Johnson sustained multiple orbital bone fractures on the left side of his face when he was struck Saturday. Red Sox spokeswoman Pam Ganley says Johnson was taken to a hospital and was resting comfortably. There were no signs of a concussion.
The 21-year-old left-hander from the University of Florida was selected by Boston with the 31st and final pick of the first round of the amateur draft, a compensation pick awarded to the Red Sox for losing closer Jonathan Papelbon in free agency. Johnson has not allowed a run in three games and 5 1-3 innings for Lowell in the Class A New York-Penn League.
