Team offers Francona $6,000/year

LACONIA, N.H. (WPRI) - If you lose your multi-million dollar a year job, would you take a similar one -- for four figures? Terry Francona is getting that job offer.

The former Boston Red Sox manager, just let go last week after the Sox didn't make it to the playoffs, has been offered the position of managing the Laconia Muskrats, a summer league team in New Hampshire.

The salary: $6,000 a year.

The Muskrats, of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, faxed a job offer to Francona's agent immediately after he was released from his contract with the major league club last week, but haven't heard back.

Muskrats owner and general manager Noah Crane says he's included some unique benefits in the offer, including a parking spot; 25 percent off at a burrito restaurant; a free gym membership; and 25 tokens to an area arcade.

They haven't heard back yet from Francona's agent.

The New England Collegiate Baseball League has 12 teams. The Muskrats finished the regular season 18-24 before advancing to the championships, where they lost to the Keene Swamp Bats.
