P-Bruins fall to Monarchs 4-3

(WPRI) - The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena.  The P-Bruins got their goals from Kirk MacDonald, Craig Cunningham and Maxime Sauve.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 1:20 mark of the opening period.  Sauve stole the puck along the left boards and sent it into the corner for Jamie Arniel.  He flipped it in front of the net for MacDonald, who scored his fifth goal of the season.  Providence made it 2-0 at the 9:19 mark.  Lane MacDermid carried the puck into the zone and passed it ahead to Trent Whitfield.  He left it along the boards for Cunningham, who shot it into the net for his 13th goal of the season.  The P-Bruins led 2-0 going into the first intermission. 

Manchester got on the board at the 6:47 mark of the second period, while on the power play.  Jake Muzzin tallied his fifth goal of the season, with Justin Azevedo and David Kolomatis recording the assists.  The Monarchs tied the game at two at the 7:36 mark.  Brandon Kozun netted his 16th goal of the season, while Robert Czarnik and Linden Vey picked up the assists.  Manchester grabbed its first lead of the game at the 19:47 mark.  Ray Kaunisto scored his fourth goal of the season, while Czarnik and Thomas Hickey had the assists.  The Monarchs led 3-2 going into the second intermission.     

Providence tied the game at three at the 9:36 mark of the third period.  David Warsofsky had the puck halfway down the left boards.  He sent the puck around the boards to the right point for Steven Kampfer, who shot it towards the net.  Sauve redirected the puck into the net for his sixth goal of the season.  Manchester retook the lead for good at the 17:28 mark.  Vey tallied his 17 th goal of the season, while Muzzin and Kozun got the assists.  The Monarchs held on for the 4-3 victory.    

Michael Hutchinson stopped 42 of 46 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jeff Zatkoff made 32 saves for the Monarchs.  The P-Bruins were 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
