Prospect hopes he can take unusual path to NFL

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) - Seven years ago, Kashif Montgomery was catching touchdown passes for Central Falls High School. If all goes well after this weekend, he could be catching touchdown passes in the NFL.

"Right now is the time," said Montgomery. "It's now or never."

Montgomery certainly took a non-traditional route to becoming an NFL draft prospect.  He started his college career playing at Dean College before leaving the school to take care of his children.  Last season, he played for the University of Lynchburg in Virginia.

Montgomery's dream became more of a reality after Brown University's Pro Day where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.4 second and bench pressed 225 lbs. 19 times.

"I could definitely see his intensity and his hunger," Montgomery's trainer Lorenzo Perry said. "Ever since day one, he was a guy who I never had to emphasize effort or emphasize work ethic."

Rumors are swirling about Montgomery's future.  Both the Redskins and Vikings are rumored to be interested in him as a late round pick or as an undrafted free agent.

"It's going to be real stressful. I can tell you that," said Montgomery. "But I got my family that helps me out. I'll be all right."
