SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Pawtucket Red Sox jumped out to a 4-1 lead on Wednesday night in Syracuse, but wound up losing 6-5 in extra innings to the Chiefs.

Justin Germano was denied his league-leading ninth win despite seven solid innings of work. Germano was stingy, scattering 3 hits and allowing just one run, a solo homer by Koyie Hill.

The Chiefs scored a couple of eighth inniing runs against Junichi Tazawa. Corey Brown had a two run double.

Daniel Bard blew the save with a rough ninth inning. Garrett Mock (3-2) was tagged with the loss.

Pawtucket scored twice in the third. Josh Kroeger doubled in a run and Ryan Lavarnway singled in another. Lavarnway went 4-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

The PawSox got another pair of runs in the sixth. Mauro Gomez and Che-Hsuan Lin knocked in runs.

The PawSox scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a base hit by Jon Hee.

In the bottom of the ninth, Chris Marrero, cousin of Red Sox top draft pick Deven Marrero, doubled off the wall, Xavier Paul then singled. With runners at first and third, Bard threw a wild pitch that allowed pinch runner Seth Bynum to score. Carlos Rivero hit a fly ball to deep right that moved Paul to third. Hill grounded to second and with the game on the line, Bard uncorked his second wild pitch that tied the game to tie it 5-5.

In the eleventh with men at first and third with one out, Jarrett Hoffpauir singled in the winning run.

The series and road trip end on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. Billy Buckner (1-1) faces John Lannan (5-6)
