PawSox split doubleheader

(WPRI) - Pitching was the name of the game on Tuesday night as the PawSox split a doubleheader with Charlotte at McCoy.

The Knights took the opener 1-0, and Pawtucket won the nightcap 3-2.

In game 1, Josh Kroeger hit an eighth inning home run off Hunter Jones (0-2). Pawtucket managed just 3 hits in the game. Kris Johnson pitched well in his first start since May 31.

Johnson gave up 2 hits in 4 and a third innings. The lefty struck out 5 while walking 3 batters.

Jose Vaquedano got the win in the second game. Vaquedano (4-1) threw three perfect innings of relief and held the Knights in check.

Chris Carter hit a 2 run homer and Travis Denker knocked in the game winning run with a double in the fifth. With the split the PawSox are 33-30.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. John Smoltz (1-1) will start for the PawSox. Clay Buchholz (4-0) will follow out of the bullpen.
