(WPRI) - The PawSox endured a very long travel day on Friday, and promptly fell behind 6-0 after 1 inning in Durham. In an unlikely turn of events, the Sox rallied for 5 runs in the eighth inning and notched their biggest comeback win of the year, 8-6 over the Bulls.

Starter Michael Bowden had a rough outing, giving up the six runs in one inning of work. The PawSox bullpen trio of Marcus McBeth, Rocky Cherry and Randor Bierd combined for 7 shutout innings and 10 strikeouts, completely shutting down the Bulls offense, limiting them to 4 hits.

In the ninth Fernando Cabrera loaded the bases, and with 2 outs faced Rhyne Hughes. Hughes grounded to short to end the game.

For Pawtucket, Paul McAnulty was the offensive catalyst. Mac had a homer (8), an rbi double and a single. In the pivotal eighth inning, nine men came to the plate and all the action started after there were two outs.

Gil Velazquez (double) and Angel Chavez (single) chipped in with 2 rbi hits each. Aaron Bates and Chavez accounted for two hits apiece. The PawSox are 35-31 and just 2 games behind the wild-card leading Bulls in the standings.

The series continues on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Enrique Gonzalez (5-6, 5.38) faces lefty Carlos Hernandez (4-2, 3.15). On Sunday, shortstop Jed Lowrie is scheduled to begin his M.L. rehab (left wrist) with the PawSox.
