PawSox lose to Scranton 6-1

(WPRI) - The first place Yankees thumped Pawtucket on Friday night 6-1, in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 10,924 at McCoy Stadium.

Travis Denker lifted a solo homer into the left field bullpen in the second inning, giving the PawSox a 1-0 lead, their only edge of the night.

Scranton scored single runs in the third and fifth to take the 2-1 lead. Colin Curtis ripped a grand slam to right off Hunter Jones in the eighth to cap the scoring. The loss goes to Kris Johnson (3-8).

Johnson had a good outing, giving up 2 runs in five and a third innings.Josh Towers earned the win with 7 solid innings. Towers (3-5) scattered 4 hits walked none and struck out 4. The win gives the Yankees a 3 and a half game edge over the third place PawSox in the I.L. North.

The series shifts to Moosic, Pa. for three games beginning on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Charlie Zink (4-7, 4.48) faces Kei Igawa (6-3, 3.80).
