(WPRI) - The Pawtucket Red Sox played one of their better games of the season on Saturday night, thumping Syracuse 8-2, in front of 10,782 fans at McCoy.
Randor Bierd earned the win to improve to 3-1. Bierd pitched 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs. They came on a home run by Daryle Ward.
The PawSox had a quick response, scoring 5 times in the bottom of the third. The big blow was a two run homer by Chris Carter. In the eighth, Jeff Natale hit a booming double to left that scored three runs. The hit came after Syracuse intentionally walked Sean Danielson to load the bases.
Javier Lopez pitched three perfect innings of relief for Pawtucket and Fernando Cabrera threw a scoreless ninth.
The series shifts to Syracuse for a Sunday doubleheader. Game time is 5:05 p.m. Charlie Zink and Adam Mills are the scheduled PawSox starters.
