(WPRI) - The southern swing through North Carolina as Virginia ended on Friday night with a 4-1 loss in Norfolk.
Despite the loss, Pawtucket went 5-3 on the eight game trip. The Sox had 10 hits but stranded 11 baserunners. Kris Johnson (3-7) was the loser, even though he pitched pretty well for 5 and two thirds innings. KJ's control was good. He fanned three and didn't walk anyone.
Back to back RBI doubles for Michael Aubrey and Melvin Dorta ended the outing for Johnson. Freddy Guzman, Jeff Bailey and Carlos Maldonado had 2 hits each for the PawSox.
For the second time in four games, the PawSox turned a triple play. In the first inning, with runners at first and second and no outs, the Tides tried a double steal. Brandon Snyder hit a fly ball to Chris Carter. Carter threw in to Travis Denker at second for out number two. Denker who was involved in the other triple play in the series, fired to first for the third out.
The PawSox return to McCoy on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. to start a 6 game homestand. Horacio Ramirez (0-0, 1.50) pitches for Syracuse and the PawSox counter with Clay Buchholz (5-1, 1.93).
