(WPRI) - Freddy Guzman singled up the middle with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to lead the PawSox to a 3-2 win over Syracuse.
8,476 fans were on hand to watch as the PawSox scored a pair in the first on a mammoth home run by Jeff Bailey.
The Chiefs scored an unearned run against Clay Buchholz in the third, capitalizing on an error by Jed Lowrie. They tied it in the sixth on a run scoring double by Ryan Langerhans. Buchholz did not figure in the decision.
Again, the Pawtucket bullpen got the job done as Marcus McBeth and Hunter Jones combined for three spotless innings of relief. Jones earned the win to improve to 2-2.
In the ninth, Paul McAnulty belted a ground rule double, Gil Velazquez walked and Angel Chavez bunted his way on board to load the bases and set up Fredy Guzmans' heroics.
The PawSox are 40-34, with three games left to play against the Chiefs before Scranton comes to town. The series continues on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Charlie Zink (4-6, 4.35) faces Garrett Mock (2-1, 4.06).
