Bowden's pitching leads PawSox to win

(WPRI) - Newcomer Aaron Bates hammered a pair of home runs on Saturday night to lead the PawSox to a 6-2 win in Syracuse.

Bates playing in just his fifth Triple A game, hit a solo shot in the second and a two run job in the fifth as the PawSox improved to 31-29 and moved into a second place tie in the North with the Chiefs.

Michael Bowden had a great outing, working 7 innings, striking out 5 batters. Bowden gave up a pair of solo homers to Justin Maxwell and Seth Bynum. Bowden (3-3) saw his ERA move from 2.47 to 2.48 for the year. Marcus McBeth pitched a perfect eighth inning and Fernandoo Cabrera retired the Chiefs in order in the ninth.

Gil Velazquez had three hits and a pair of rbi for Pawtucket. Freddy Guzman added a couple of hits and made 9 putouts in centerfield.

The series continues on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The two teams will play the finale at Doubleday Field in nearby Cooperstown, New York. Enrique Gonzalez (5-6, 5.06) faces lefty Scott Olsen (NR).
