The PawSox took game two with Syracuse 8-3 Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium. Nate Spears went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and J.C. Linares went 3 for 4.
Syracuse took the lead 2-0 after three innings. Corey Brown singled and scored Carlos Maldonado and Koyle Hill.
The PawSox got on the board in the fourth with a leadoff single by Alex Hassan who scored on a RBI sac fly by Jose Iglesias to trail the Chiefs 2-1.
In the sixth, Ryan Lavarnway hit a solo homerun (8) and tied the game 2-2. Che-Hsaun Lin had an RBI single that scored Andy LaRoche and gave the PawSox the lead, 3-2. Nate Spears extended the lead 6-2 with a 3-run RBI triple (8). Spears scored on a single by Iglesias. PawSox led 7-2 after six. That was Lavranway’s first homerun since June 18th.
A wild pitch by Will Inman scored the Chiefs’ Carlos Rivera and made the score 7-3, but three singles in a row loaded the bases in the seventh for the PawSox. Lars Anderson would score after Hassan was hit by a pitch, and the PawSox extended the lead to 8-3.
Doug Mathis earned the win for the PawSox. He gave up three runs (1 earned) and five hits in six innings. For the Chiefs, Yunesky Maya took the loss after giving up eight hits and six runs in five innings plus a batter. The series continues tomorrow at 7:05 pm at McCoy. Billy Buckner (1-4, 6.80) faces Jeff Mandel (0-2, 2.05).
