(WPRI) - The Pawtucket Red Sox and Norfolk Tides battled for 8 innings on Tuesday afternoon before torrential rain halted play. As a result, Pawtucket won the ballgame 5-3.
Pawtucket (29-18) got a spot start from Tony Pena. Pena took the place of Daisuke Matsuzaka. The right hander went three and two thirds innings, allowing a pair of earned runs. Chorye Spoone, Junichi Tazawa and Mark Melancon all fared well out of the bullpen.
The PawSox got a 1-0 lead in the third inning as a sacrifice fly by Jose Iglesias brought Nate Spears in. In the sixth, Alex Hassan dumped a home run over the left field fence, his third of the year. In the seventh, Iglesias knocked in another run with a fielders' choice, and Ryan Lavarnway followed with an RBI double.
The PawSox wrap up the southern swing with a 4-4 record. They have Wednesday off before starting an 8 game homestand at McCoy on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. against Toledo. Ross Ohlendorf (3-3) is the scheduled starter.
