PawSox beat IronPigs 4-3

(WPRI) - After a 13 minute rain delay just before the start of the game,The PawSox won their league best 36th game of the 2012 season on Sunday afternon, outlasting the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 4-3.

It was the third straight game between the two teams decided by a single run. First place Pawtucket got an outstanding effort from starter and winner Doug Mathis. Mathis (4-3) scattered 6 hits, allowing 2 runs, with no walks and three strikeouts. Alex Wilson contributed a pair of shutout innings of relief and Garrett Mock worked a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.

Ryan Lavarnway paced the offense with 3 hits in 4 at bats. Lavarnway had a double and scored twice. Lars Anderson, Josh Kroeger and Jon Hee all had an RBI each. Alex Hassan walked with the bases loaded in the fifth to get a run batted in.  Darnell McDonald continued his rehab with the PawSox, going 1 for 5 with a ground rule double in the game.

The series and road trip conclude on Monday at 7:05 p.m. Justin Germano (5-3, 2.89) faces left hander Tom Cochran ( 2-1, 4.70).
