Chiefs top PawSox 6-3

(WPRI) - The PawSox lost the final game of the 2-game set with Syracuse 6-3 Thursday afternoon at McCoy Stadium.

Andrew Bailey pitched one inning, gave up one hit and struck out two as he continued his rehab assignment since having thumb surgery. He threw 20 pitches and had 14 strikes. Nate Spears led the PawSox with two hits.

Syracuse scored five runs off of five hits in the third inning and led the PawSox 5-0. Jim Negrych, Corey Brown, and Carlos Rivero each had a RBI for the Chiefs.

For the PawSox in the third, Spears hit a solo homerun (9) to right field and gave them their first hit of the game. Syracuse led 5-1. An RBI single from Mauro Gomez in the sixth put the PawSox behind Syracuse 5-2. Syracuse added to their lead with a RBI single from Brown in the seventh, and led 6-2. RBI sac fly by J.C. Linares scored Che-Hsaun Lin and cut the PawSox deficit to 6-3 in the eighth. Lin had a bunt single.

Billy Buckner took the loss for the PawSox after giving up five hits and five runs (unearned) in five innings. Jeff Mandel earned the win for Syracuse. He gave up four hits and two runs in seven innings.

The PawSox go to Rochester for a 2-game starting tomorrow and Saturday nights (both at 7:05 pm) before moving to Buffalo for 2-games on Sunday (6:05 pm) and Monday (7:05 pm - Live on NESN). For Fidays's game, Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-2, 3.21) faces Eric Hurley (0-0, 11.25).
