PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI/AP) - The NCAA Tournament finished it's week-long run at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Saturday with another big upset.
The second-seeded Villanova Wildcats lost to tenth-seeded Saint Mary's 75-68 sending Saint Mary's to the Sweet 16 next weekend.
Meanwhile, sixth-seeded Tennessee defeated #14 seed Ohio 83-68 in the second game of the doubleheader.
The event was expected to generate a huge tourism boost for the state as Rhode Island rolled out the welcome mat for tournament fans even holding a special WaterFire on Friday night.
Back to Saint Mary's, who the crowd at the Dunk seemed to adopt as a favorite on Saturday. Omar Samhan was an unstoppable force and played the game of his career, finishing with 32 points and seven rebounds to lead the Gaels past Villanova.
Each of Saturday's games in Providence matched a double-digit seed against a team from a power conference. But one-half hour after tiny Saint Mary's got their win, Ohio failed in its attempt to be just the third No. 14 seed to reach the Sweet 16 since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985.
