(WPRI) - This week's Cardi's Hometown Sports Hero is Tom Pannone. The reigning All-American threw seven shutout innings to help the Hawks clinch their 17th state baseball title.

His efforts at the plate and on the mound earned him the Divison-I MVP award and capped off a special week for the Cranston native. Pannone was chosen by the Chicago Cubs in the 33rd round of the Major League draft. The University of Miami recruit has until July 13th to decide to play for the Hurricanes or begin his pro career in the Cub organization.
