EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - After a week of temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, Friday's final round of the Rhode Island Women's Golf Association Amateur Championship was played in the rain.
Three-time high school champion Nicole Scola defeated 2008 RIWGA champion Amanda Sabitoni 3 and 2 in match play to win her first RIWGA title.
"It was really exciting for me," Scola said after winning. "There was a ton of good competition out there, so I really just wanted to try my hardest and do the things I had been practicing."
"It gave me a lot of confidence in my game, and now I'm excited to go out and play more tournaments and build off of this."
