(WPRI) - The University of Rhode Island baseball team needed to win just one of Saturday's two games against Xavier to win the Atlantic 10 title, but they couldn't get it done in Dayton, Ohio.

The Rams lost a close 9-7 decision in Game 1 but were blown out 10-1 in Game 2.

Xavier has now eliminated URI from the A-10 tournament the last three years in a row.

With the A-10 Championship title, Xavier receives the league's automatic bid into the 2009 NCAA Tournament, an honor the Rams were hoping to achieve.  They hadn't lost a game in the tournament going into Saturday's final.

URI will now have to wait for the NCAA selection committee to announce the tournament pairings Monday at 12:30 p.m. to find out if they will receive an at-large bid to the tournament.
