PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The Providence College Friars hockey team will begin 2012 with some big wins under their belts.
That includes a huge 2-1 overtime win over Merrimack, ranked #1 at the time.
The win earned PC its first top 20 ranking in three season, and even though they have since dropped just below the top 20, the players and coaches are still excited.
"Obviously being in the national polls is a big pat on the back," senior defenseman Daniel New said. "But there's a lot of work to be done, and we're going to keep working hard."
"It's been a big difference for them," head coach Nate Leaman said of the new style he has brought to the team. "They're working their tails off, and, in the last four games, we're just starting to see the identity of what we want to play like."
The Friars return to action on January 5 at home against UMass.
