(WPRI) - North Kingstown swimming star Elizabeth Beisel is all of five weeks into her college swimming career at the University of Florida, and she's already scooping up the trophies.
Beisel was named the SEC Swimmer of the Week Tuesday for third time this season.
“It’s well deserved,” Florida head coach Gregg Troy said. “She swam extremely well on the West Coast and continues to train exceptionally hard. She’s a fantastic athlete.”
Beisel earned the honor after winning all four of her individual events with NCAA provisional times last weekend in Palo Alto, Calif.
If fact, Beisel set a pool record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.27, the fifth-fastest in school history.
The 2010-11 U.S. National Team member also swam the fastest time in the country by almost two seconds in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 4:08.53. Four events later, Beisel captured the 500-yard freestyle by more than five seconds with a SEC-leading time of 4:46.34. She also won the 200 individual medley.
Beisel was also named SEC Female Freshman of the Week on Nov. 2. Beisel now has NCAA provisional times in eight different events this season, while winning a women’s team-leading 16 total events this year (14 individual events, two relays).
