School may be out for the summer, but new finding show that for millions of kids in America school is too easy! The study is from the Center for American Progress. They analyzed three years of questionnaires from the Department of Education's National Assessment of Educational Progress, a national test given each year.
Among the findings: 37% of fourth-graders said their math homework is "often" or "always" too easy, while 57% of eighth-graders said their history homework is "often" or always" too easy. The data suggest that many kids simply aren't pushed academically.
The center that did the study supports new "Common Core" standards that are to be implemented nationwide in 2014. The standards have been adopted by 45 states, and are meant to give students a better sense of the real world. The report could spark a debate about whether these new standards would make a difference nationwide.
