Facebook viewing scam fooling millions

App offers to let you see who is viewing your page

We all want to see who is checking our Facebook profile. A new scam is attempting to take advantage of our curiosity and let us see who is browsing our digital life. Problem Solver Susan Hogan sat down with The Rhode Show to explain why this app will give you more enemies than friends.

The Rhode Show: "So how does this scam work?"

Susan Hogan: "You get an email or Facebook message saying these apps can show you who is viewing your profile. Once you allow access, the app begins posting on your page asking others to join. The apps can also obtain your personal information and email everyone on your friends list".

The Rhode Show: "How do we avoid falling for this scam?"

Susan Hogan: "Review all of your applications carefully. Remember, Facebook has stated they will never allow users to see who viewed their profile. Any application that claims to do this is a scam".

The Rhode Show: "Another scam is claiming to be President Obama saying that he will pay your utility bills? Is this true?"

Susan Hogan: "No, President Obama is not going to pay our bills. Customers of several utility customers have reported receiving calls, text messages, or fliers saying that President Obama is issuing credits to help pay bills. In reality, customers are asked for their social security number and bank routing number. They believe they have paid their bills when they really have not".
