As high school and college graduates celebrate their recent accomplishment, the hard part really begins... finding a job! With the the national unemployment rate at 8.2% It's harder than ever for grads to get work despite their degree.
The Economic Policy Institute calls the labor market "grim", and says the unemployment rate among college graduates under 25 is 9.4% with an additional 19% in jobs they are overqualified for.
Polls also show Americans in their early 20s are pessimistic about immediate job prospects. That's probably based on the experience of the 20-somethings just ahead of them. A Rutgers University study found that only 51% of graduates in recent years were working full time. The rest were in graduate school, unemployed, working part time or no longer in the job market. One in four were living with parents.
