PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - Most people who have smart phones load them up with apps. But did you ever wonder who designs the apps that we use everyday?

Glad Works , a local company in Pawtucket has become one of the leaders in design and development.

It may look like fun and games, but making apps is the name of the game.

"Glad Works is a we're a full service advertising agency and we are a blend of creativity and technology," said Adam Harvey, Technology Director at Glad Works. "We have probably developed over five hundred applications since the iTunes Store was created."

Glad Works success has been built on really knowing what the client wants for their app.

"Once we get to the point of when we understand an application something that is viable and hasn't already been done, then we go through the process of typically of setting up some kind of a scope, or come in with a plan or a diagram of how that application can work," said Gina DiSpirito, Creative Director and Founder of Glad Works.

But, just because you have an app doesn't mean people are going to want it.

"Sometimes the key point that people miss after they go through doing the application is actually promoting it. You have to really let people know that it is available," added DiSpirito.

Creating a new app can take days or weeks to get it right.

"Everything starts with sketches. It's best for us and for our client if they can see things earlier and rougher so we can get an idea for how things are going to work and how they are going to look before they are totally flushed out," said Mattie Raposa, Senior Designer and Illustrator at Glad Works.

Millions of downloads are also a big pat on the back for the employees.

"It's always really great to be able to show my friends and family too when something that I've worked on comes out in the store," continued Raposa.

With new companies looking to be on the cutting edge, Glad Works is busy building new apps for kids education, apps for radio stations and business that just want to own a piece of real estate on your smart phone.

Glad Works is located inside as mill in Pawtucket is able to make apps for everything from Android, to iPad to iPhone.
