The dog days of summer are upon Rhode Islanders and that means, heat, humidity, and AC units cranked up! With all of the heat it can be confusing trying to figure out what to wear so personal stylist Jill Marinelli visited The Rhode Show to share her summer “don’ts”.
People tend to go a little too far in summertime when it comes to minimal clothing. There’s a way to keep things light without showing too much skin. Jill says there’s a fine line between a sexy look and a trashy look.
Marinelli also says to avoid clothing that’s too tight fitting.
“If you’ve put on a few pounds and think ‘Oh, I’ll just keep squeezing into these older clothes’ it actually makes you bigger,” she said.
In addition to avoiding tight clothing, Jill says sneakers are a summer “don’t” as well. Unless you are going to the gym, Marinelli says sneakers should be nixed from the wardrobe. A look can be completed with a pair of flats, sandals, or other shoes, but socks and sneakers are never stylish according to Marinelli.
Hair and makeup can be overdone too. Going over the top with high hair or caked-on makeup will not work in the heat and humidity of the summertime.
Marinelli suggests toning down a look with more of a bare/natural look and a simple, sleek hairstyle like a bun.
