PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – StyleWeek NorthEast is now at the Providence Biltmore where all week, up and coming designers will show off their creations on the runway.
Designer Maria Del Carmen Mercado showed her newest collection on Tuesday night in her fourth appearance in Styleweek Northeast.
“This is my fourth time in StyleWeek Providence and this is probably the best collection I have done. I think this time I was more relaxed, and my vision was more clear which made it easier to construct,” said Maria.
This collection focuses on bright colors and a tropical feel.
“I am from the Dominican Republic and my collection means beautiful scenery. I used a lot of color and tried to do things that really show the figure. It is a tropical area, so I tried to do things that show the tropical side.”
Many of the fashions use inspiration from the Dominican Republic with ruffles, shape, and a lot of energy.
“Back home we use a lot of ruffles and a lot of energy, so I tried to mimic that in the kids wear and in the adults. Not only did I try to focus on the color, I tried to focus on the shape of it,” said Maria.
Maria is also known for her one of a kind hand dyed designs.
StyleWeek Northeast is taking place all week and the accessory showcase before the show is free and open to the public.
