ROME, ITALY (WPRI) - There are a lot of similarities between Rhode Island’s capital city and Italy’s. Both have incredible restaurants, a beautiful river, busy streets, and a love of the arts. But Rhode Island and Rome also share a similar school.

Tucked away on a tiny Italian street is a building that's home to a talented group of students.

"It’s a 24/7 environment. They're here all the time working or cooking when they're not out learning,” said Chief Critic of the European Honors program, Susan Doyle.

Rhode Island School of Design in Rome is home to classmates from all over the world looking to further their careers.

"I had a chance to meet with some of the students, including a student who has a proposal for Kennedy Plaza,” said Mayor Angel Taveras.

Aditya Dutta, a junior from India had a proposal to improve the bus system.

"I spoke to a lot of people about Kennedy Plaza on the streets and they were a little confused on the bus system,” he said.

"My final product was this kind of circular map that showed all the bus routes on one page...making Kennedy Plaza the hub of Providence."

From mouse pad to sketchpad, their work is impressive.

"We went to this small village called Casa Del Vecchio and we had to do something for the people there and I made this little comic and I put together as many as i could and i gave them out and seeing the people's responses is great” said A.T. Pratt, a Senior illustration student from New York.
