(WPRI) -- Many of us ride RIPTA to get to work, and many students take advantage of the service to get to and from their classes.
Annette Manivong is one of those students, and she was recently chosen as this month's winner of the RIPTA Rider Contest .
Annette was looking to save money while attending college at URI, so she decided to commute. Unfortunately, that meant traveling all the way from her home in Woonsocket. Luckily, RIPTA was there to help, with both her commute and her finances.
"Taking the bus is going to save me money on gas," she said. "Gas is really expensive, and I know that the mileage would totally kill the car, because my hometown is really far from campus."
Annette was very excited to be chosen as this month's winner, especially since it earned her a free bus pass for a year!
She really appreciates the convenience of RIPTA since she can use the time to read or study for an upcoming exam. She thinks that people are too skeptical of public transportation, and should take advantage of what RIPTA has to offer.
"It's not as dangerous or scary as it seems," she added. "It saves you a lot of money, honestly, and it gives me time to do things you can't do while driving."
