(WPRI) -- There are many different things to do around the Ocean State, and this weekend one of the most beloved family-friendly events is back.
While many are getting ready for the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon this weekend, there's another event in Rhode Island that's drawing a crowd.
The Washington County Fair is celebrating their 46th year, and it's no wonder why they've been around for decades: There's so much to do!
For just $10, people can experience it all. including getting up close and personal with some animals.
Then its on to some games and rides, but not before checking out a few tents along the way.
The fair has many rides for different types of thrill seekers, some that spin, some that twirl, and some that move very fast.
"We have rides for everyone," said Washington County Fair Pete Fish. "We have a kiddie land for small children, we have adult rides, we have the largest portable roller coaster in New England, so we really have something for everyone."
Exploring the fair can certainly work up an appetite, and luckily the fair offers a lot of delicious treats.
The fair raises roughly $25,000 every year with offerings such as giant turkey legs, corn fritters, and even giant pickles. Also, it wouldn't be a fair in Rhode Island without clam cakes and chowder!
The excitement continues into the nighttime as well. Some big name musical acts perform for the crowd, and you get to watch it for a small price.
"On the stage we're going to have acts like Eden's Edge, which is a hot new country band, Ricochette, some pretty big names in country music," said Mike Camacho of Washington County Fair Entertainment.
The fair is a successful annual venture since it's affordable and family-friendly.
The Washington County Fair runs through Sunday, August 19, the same day as the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon . For more, visit their website at www.washingtoncountyfair-ri.com .
