Indoor decor trends for the fall season

With The Rhode Island Design Center

(WPRI) -- The days are getting shorter, and colder temperatures will be here before you know it. As the scenery outdoors changes, many of us like to change our indoor decor as well. We took at trip to the Rhode Island Design Center to learn about some upcoming design trends.

Rhode Islanders love to decorate according to the season, so the design center currently has different motifs available for autumn.

Now is time to start decorating for fall – by bringing aspects of the outdoors, inside! Glenn Sousa from the RI Design Center says that plums, rusts, golds, and greens are some of the most important colors when doing so.

"You can get some splashes of color on top of your coffee tables, your end tables, centerpieces for your dining rooms," he added. "It is always a nice way to bring it in, and it's a nice way to say goodbye to summer and say hello to autumn."

In the fall, entertaining also moves indoors, as well as becoming more casual. Glenn says that multi-functional entertainment pieces are really standing out this season.

"We have bars that will just fold up and turn into a very nice piece of furniture. However, when you open them up, they'll have serving space on top and you'll also be able to hide all of your beverages as well." he said.

Also hot this fall are pieces that have a world-traveled look, by containing detailed carvings, nice leather pieces, as well as utilizing reclaimed wood. The trendy accent color this season is teal, and can be added to your home through a piece of painted furniture. Glenn recommends decorating with textures and natural fibers with woven baskets, slipcovers, or toss pillows.

"You can follow a trend but you don't really have to spend a fortune dedicating yourself to that. You can bring in a piece here or there and then trade it out as the trend fades,” said Sousa.
