(WPRI) -- For a new twist to your child’s birthday party this year, why not bring a petting zoo to your home?

The traveling petting zoo, Barn Babies , brings baby animals to local birthday parties, schools and even nursing homes.

“We bring kitties, puppies, bunnies, chicks, piglets and a goat anywhere, inside or out, year-round," said Kerri Kauranen-Ymer, co-owner of Barn Babies. "We wrap them up like this little baby for everyone to snuggle their own.”

Mostly geared towards children ages 1-12, Barn Babies has appeared at events for teens, and even senior citizens.

“0 to 12 is our most popular," said Kerri. "But we have done 16, and we have done 99. We do it all.”

The other co-owner, Kerri’s mom, Linda Kauranen, said that all of Barn Babies’ animals are from local breeders and farms.

“It has been working for 18 years," she said. "I was raising the kids 18 years ago, I was an animal lover, and I wanted to share it. So it has been very successful and we love it.”

The mother-daughter duo suggests that no more than 20 children attend a Barn Babies event so every child can interact with their own barn baby.

“We always have about 20 babies, so that way, everyone has something to hold or visit with," said Kerri.

For birthday parties, the duo said their barn babies usually stay one hour, however, for festivals and bigger events, they stay longer.
