The Great Chowder Cook-off in Newport features dozens of recipes from across the state and even a few countries. The event takes places on Saturday, June 2 where guests can sample the best in clam, seafood, and other creative chowders.
Chef Kevin Gadreau from Trio visited The Rhode Show to share information on the upcoming event.
This year marks the 31st annual Great Chowder Cook-off and is expected to bring in 20,000 people. Guests should come hungry because there will be lots to try.
“We have clam chowder, seafood chowder, a creative category so there’s a lot going on there. Rain or shine it’s going to be a beautiful day,” said Gadreau.
Chef Gadreau even brought along his own chowder recipe that’s a take on New England clam chowder.
“You have your potatoes, I use pancetta, clams, some dill, some fresh herbs, and celery seed,” Gadreau said.
His seafood chowder that he will be making at the cook-off will have a southeast Asian twist and contain coconut milk and lemon grass.
In addition to chowder, Gadreau also brought stuffies. People could vote on various stuffie recipes on Facebook and the winner will make an appearance on stage at the Great Chowder Cook-off.
