Pats fans get 'Super' hair cuts

Cutting edge Patriots fans

(WPRI) - Local barbers are literally cutting commitment into Patriot fans with a heads-up show of support that will last long after the end of Super Bowl XLVI.

It might not be just a coincidence that Patriot colors are the same as the ones on the barber shop pole outside Bob’s Barber Shop on Charles Street in Providence.

The man behind the clippers is Baboucarr Lette, whose first name that led to the moniker on his shop.

“’Cause a lot of people can't pronounce my name,” Lette told us with a big smile.

But gone like Schaefer Stadium and losing seasons are bowl cuts and mullets.

“A lot of kids want their names and stars,” Lette said. “Stars are coming back. Stars and mohawks.”

But a Patriots logo, a so-called flying Elvis, still seemed a bit hairy even for an award winning barber like Lette who won a trophy for shaving a fade faster than his opponents at a recent competition in Worcester.

“No problem,” he said regarding cutting logos into hair. “It's the Super Bowl spirit.”

One of the fans who wanted his support for the Pats cut into his head explained that he would not go anywhere other than Bob’s.

“I never let anyone cut my hair except this dude, Bob the Barber.”

Another customer decided on a standard cut, citing monetary reasons.

“No sir. You have to pay for advertising on my head.”

Of course, even a trophy winning barber like Bob needs a barber so he turned to one of his teammates, Edmond Diggs. In the spirit of the super rematch, it was game on.

“I had to work on his, little small head,” Diggs said referring to his boss’s scalp. “Look at the head he’s got over there. That guy’s like Stewie from The Family Guy.”

Lette laughed it off but did acknowledge a bigger head offered a bigger canvas for his work. The Gambia native also admitted he was happy with the logo groomed into his hair by Diggs and he promises it is not going anywhere.

“Win or lose, it doesn't matter. I’m not shaving it off. I’m true to my team.”

But he predicts a win which may bring him a few more logo cuts on human helmets.
