PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - With the Patriots headed to the Superbowl, The Rhode Show decided to ask the Patriots cheerleaders back to the studio to test their football knowledge. Stephanie, Brittney-Lynne, and Athena were the contestants and fellow cheerleaders Asia and Patricia were there to support.

As host of the game, Michaela explained the rules of the game. After she read a question the first cheerleader to raise their pompom would get the opportunity to answer. If they answered correctly, they would receive a point. If not, the next cheerleader to raise their pompom would get a chance to answer.

The first question: “Can you name the head coach of the Patriots?” Brittney-Lynee was quick to respond with the correct answer: Bill Belichick; earning her one point.

Question 2: “How many teams are in the NFL?” Before Michaela could even finish the question, Stephanie was able to guess correctly with an answer of 32. In order to keep the game fair, Athena suggested initiating a new rule. Michaela would finish the entire question before players could raise their pompom.

Question 3 went to Athena. She correctly guessed the number of conferences in the NFL with the answer being two. Not only did she earn herself a point, she also named both conferences: the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference. The game was tied at 1 point each.

Stephanie scored her second point on the fourth question of the game: “How many players are of the field at once?” The answer is 22. Eleven players from each team are on the field at one time.

Question 5: “During the pre-season and the regular season (not including playoffs) how many games does each team play?” Stephanie, Brittney-Lynne, and Athena were all quick to raise their pompom, so Michaela had to turn to Asia and Patricia for help. They decided and Brittney-Lynne who answered correctly. “There’s twenty games total. Four pre-season and sixteen regular” she said.

Question 6 had the cheerleader explain what a ‘first down’ was and how many attempts the offense is given to complete one. Athena responds with “the players have to move ten yards and they actually have four downs to complete this”. She is correct, earning her a point and tying the game at 2 points apiece.

It was down to the final question. “Name the number one cheerleading team in the NFL?” Each contestant was quick to raise their arm so a three-way tie was ruled, having the three cheerleaders say the answer together: “the New England Patriots cheerleaders!”

The Rhode Show rewarded all of them one point making the final scores tied at 3 points each.

The New England Patriots cheerleaders will be hosting tryouts on Saturday, March 3rd at Gillette Stadium. For more information head to their website  http://www.patriots.com/cheerleaders/auditions.html
