A movie shot in Rhode Island is wowing audiences across the country. Moonrise Kingdom opened the Cannes Film Festival and will soon be playing in the Ocean State.
One of the movie's stars, Jason Schwartzman joined The Rhode Show to discuss the film.
Rhode Island's beautiful landscape proved to be the perfect place to film much of the movie.
"The idea is that it takes place on this island, and it's this beautiful, magical, natural landscape," says Schwartzman, who plays Cousin Ben in the film.
The movie highlights the lives of two twelve-year-olds, living off the coast of a New England town. The two fall in love and run away together, eliciting a search party to form and go after them.
"The genesis of the movie was to make a film about a nostalgic feeling about first love and the excitement of having dreams about a future life with this person."
Directed by Wes Anderson, Moonrise Kingdom will open at the Avon Providence and The Jane Pickens Theatre in Newport on June 22.
